About 6TH GRADE KEYBOARDING
* Each day we will have an introductory lesson and a practice lesson over a particular set of keys. Completion of all assignments are to be expected to be completed during class (unless of an excused absence)
* Once these lessons are completed, there should be plenty of time in class for students to work on any reinforcement lessons available, eliminating the need for outside/home work (unless a student is absent or not working during class time).
* If you will be absent, I will only require the completion of the missed day’s work and timed writings missed. The student may choose to do the assignment posted in the classroom and on my website calendar. It is the students RESPONSIBILITY to get the missed work/timed writings scheduled with the teacher. GRADING:
#1 Completed Daily Assignments
This will count for 50% of the students’ grade. Each lesson will count as 20 points and will be entered weekly. Late lessons will automatically counted as 5 points off if completed the day returned from being absent. After one week of not doing the daily assignment or timed writing, the lesson will be considered a 0 in the gradebook.
#2 Timed Writings
This will count for 25% of the students’ overall grade. Every other week the students will become familiar with the process and give them a benchmark to check their progress. This is a one minute timed writing.
A good goal for this age is 25-30 wpm (words per minute).
#3 Participation
This will count as 25% of the students’ overall grade. This includes:
Technique – proper finger placement and posture
Effort – completes bell work and lessons without excessive grumbling or complaining and without reminders from me
Behavior – acceptable and appropriate, not being loud, disruptive or defiant
On Task – students must remain on task and doing lessons throughout the class period.
